Sylvester Stallone’s involvement in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has been no secret, but now director James Gunn has offered the first hints of his top secret role in the film, along with revealing another previously unknown cast member – Michael Rosenbaum.
"We do have a couple of characters who are very important to the Marvel Universe who are going to make their debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 which people don't know about," Gunn revealed on The Adam Carolla Show. "Sylvester Stallone plays one of these characters...my friend Michael Rosenbaum also has a pretty decent movie in the role as well and it sort of works in tandem with Sly's character."
Rosenbaum is perhaps best known to comic book fans as Lex Luthor on Smallville, or as the voice of the Flash on the Justice League animated series.
As for which characters they may be playing, it’s difficult to speculate. Stallone was reportedly seen in Ravager gear in test footage shown during a set visit while the film was in production last year. Gunn’s comments make it sound like they have a role to play in later Marvel films, but he may simply be alluding to their role in the Guardians’ adventures.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is due out in theaters May 5.
