Marvel has announced Secret Empire #0 by Nick Spencer and Daniel Acuna, a prelude to its upcoming summer event which sets the stage for the roles of Steve Rogers and the heroes of the Marvel Universe in the story.

Secret Empire is the culmination of the story of Steve Rogers as an agent of Hydra, a status quo put in place last year as a result of the Red Skull using a cosmic cube to tamper with Rogers’ past. In Secret Empire, all of Marvel’s heroes come together over the revelation of Rogers’ allegiance, including the Avengers, Defenders, X-Men, Champions, Inhumans, and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Spencer will write Secret Empire #0, with art from Acuna. Steve McNiven will take over art chores when Secret Empire #1 begins the story in earnest.

“Wherever you find favor within the Marvel Universe, Secret Empire is a story for you,” said Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso. “When the world’s most respected and trusted super hero, Captain America, assumes ultimate power and goes bad, it serves as a rallying cry for all the heroes. Avengers, X-Men, Guardians, Inhumans and street-level heroes unite to fight for the fate – and soul – of the Marvel Universe.”

Secret Empire #0 is on shelves in April, while Secret Empire #1 will follow in May.
