The creator-owned Lumberjanes is branching out into a series of middle-grade prose novels from Amulet Books, reports Publishers Weekly. Mariko Tamaki has been tapped to write the series, with Lumberjanes co-creator Brooke Allen contributing black-and-white illustrations. Amulet anticipates the first Lumberjanes prose novel will be published in October 2017, with a plan to publish 150,000 copies.

“Once you read it, it’s impossible not to fall in love with the Lumberjanes - the characters are so memorable and relatable, and the stories are so much fun," said Amulet Books' publisher, Andrew Smith. "The imaginative storytelling involving powerful girls - each with their own unique talents - going on supernatural adventures and solving problems using their smarts was irresistible and timely. We thought it would be incredibly exciting to be able to introduce original adventures within the middle-grade fiction category - and create new stories that would not only excite existing fans of the comics, but gain lots of new readers as well.”

Created and owned by Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, Brooke A. Allen, and Noelle Stevenson in 2014, the Lumberjanes comic book title has sold more than 800,000 copies according to BOOM! Studios. 20th Century Fox is developing a live-action movie.
