A majority stake in the company that owns Charles Schulz' iconic Peanuts franchise is in talks to be offered for sale, reports Reuters. Iconix Brand Group is reportedly exploring the sale of its 80% stake in Peanuts Worldwide LLC, a company is set up in 2010 with the Schulz' family's Charles M. Schulz Creative Associates to receive ownership in Peanuts from United Media.

This report comes three months after insurance giant MetLife suspended its licensing of the Peanuts franchise as an advertising mascot after 30 years, which was reportedly a loss of $10-$15 million in annual income for Peanuts Worldwide LLC.

Reuters goes on to say that several unspecified Chinese companies are interested in acquiring the Peanuts franchise should Iconix go through with their plans.
