Vin Diesel has often talked about wanting Groot to enter the larger MCU, and now he's taking that one step further, claiming a Groot solo-movie is "inevitable."

"It's something [Guardians of the Galaxy director] James Gunn has talked about. And it's something I know that he would love to do," Diesel told MTV International. "Sure, I think it could be very interesting. I think it's inevitable."

"You know, that character is so enigmatic," he continued. "He was already one of the most unique characters in the Marvel Universe, and I think what Marvel has done - primarily what James Gunn has done - to realize that character has exceeded beyond anyone's expectations. He's just such an interesting character, and there's so much to learn about him. I'd love to go back to his planet and learn more about him. And I think the world would. He's really a genius on a lot of levels, but we can only hear him say 'I am Groot,' because of our sophistication level, not his."

If a Groot solo movie seems like a tough prospect, given the character's limited speech, bear in mind that Groot has previously anchored his own solo comic book series, so there is a precedent.

Groot will next appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which is due out in theaters May 5.
