Although Ben Affleck says he's "in no hurry" to make DC Films' The Batman, the actor/director has told Variety he expects the film to begin shooting in spring 2017.

"We’re on the right track with that and everything is coming together,” Affleck told Variety. “We’re still finishing up a script. I’m very excited.”

Affleck went on to praise some of the previous Batman movies (and overlook others), but was careful to demarcate his take and theirs.

“I respect all of those movies. Christopher Nolan did an incredible job, Christian Bale did an incredible job, Tim Burton did an incredible job," said Affleck. "At a certain point you have to look forward and try to believe in your own vision for it and not be looking over your shoulder the whole time. I go into that movie with a tremendous amount of respect for the people who came before me.”

No release date for The Batman has been set by Warner Bros., however a report from earlier this month stated that 2019's Justice League 2 was being delayed in order to focus on The Batman.
