The Nintendo Gameboy edition of a rare, unreleased Akira game developed by THQ has been uncovered by video game historian Patrick Scott Patterson. Patterson states that he has uncovered four different builds of the game with different playable levels with the characters Kaneda and Tetsuo.

Patterson states that he has plans to merge the best sections from each of the four builds to salvage a playable Akira game to be released to the public.

Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira has been adapted as a video game on several occasions, ranging from a 1988 Nintendo Famicom game, a 1994 Amiga CD32 game, and a 2002 pinball simulator titled Akira Psycho Ball.
