Frank Herbert's epic sci-fi prose series Dune is once again being eyed for a live-action adaptation, as Legendary has reached a deal with the author's estate for the franchise's film and television rights. No specific plans were named at this time.

Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides, who leads a rebellion to restore his family's control of the planet Arrakis, and with it the trade of the lucrative resource of Spice.

Dune has been adapted into film twice - once with David Lynch's 1984 movie, and then in 2000 with a Syfy miniseries. From 2008 to 2011, Paramount Pictures had the franchise in development with various directors including Peter Berg and Pierre Morel involved.
