New York Comic Con can be the place for hot exclusive merchandise, a chance to meet your favorite celebrities and creators, but this NYCC had something more interesting to offer: a well-groomed shave.

At the Marvel booth, guests were invited to get a bearded do-over in the shape of one of Marvel’s best-known facial hair. Now, Newsarama has talked about the best beards in comic book before and this list consisted of some of them from the Doctor Strange, the Dum Dum Dugan, and even the Luke Cage. While our own George Marston was fundamentally opposed to the premise, eventually Newsarama found somebody who was game: me.

When arriving to the shaving booth, it was a standard barber’s chair and a New York barber by the name of Mike Martinez. Originally from Phoenix, Martinez said he took the job loving comic books and they were looking for somebody from around the area and he went in without hesitation.

Martinez said that he'd be working busily at the convention since 10 a.m. that morning.  Martinez is also a contributor to StyleCaster and provides expert advice on all things grooming.

The point was Marvel’s sponsorship with the new Norelco OneBlade (which were given away after your shave, along with a nice hand towel) which will be given promotion on the upcoming Doctor Strange movie, from Marvel Studios.

Given the list provided, I went with the Batroc as was recommended by Martinez.

The whole process took about 8 minutes at max. Martinez explained that the OneBlade works on wet or dry hair and is kind of a one-stop-shop for a fast and even look.

It was definitely a first type of con experience. With NYCC also providing massage chairs down in Artist's Alley and a grooming station, I can’t wait to see what experience comes to comic conventions next.
