After the release of Suicide Squad, some fans pointed to the version of the team that appeared on Arrow as an example of the Squad done right. According to Arrow executive producer Greg Berlanti, the Squad was included in Arrow season two at Warner Bros.'s request, to try out the concept before the Squad's feature film.
“They said to us a year and a half before they started developing Suicide Squad, ‘Will you guys put [a version of] the Suicide Squad in your show? Because we want to have it as a film at some point,’” Berlanti told New York Magazine (via Vulture).
The Suicide Squad aren't the only characters who joined the CW-DC TV-Verse at DC's request. Cisco Ramon, known in comic books as Vibe, was also added to Flash because of a request from none other than DC Chief Creative Officer (and now DC Films' co-head) Geoff Johns.
“It also happened with Geoff when Geoff and Andrew [Kreisberg] and I were creating Flash. They were both really huge fans of Cisco Ramon, [also known as] Vibe, and had written a Vibe comic [in 2013] to try and bring him back. They said, ‘Could we please have Vibe on the show?’”
New seasons of Arrow and Flash will premiere later this year, with Flash season three premiering October 4 on CW, followed on October 5 by the premiere of Arrow season 5.
