Since FX announced its Marvel mutant show Legion, it hasn't quite been clear how the show will fit into the X-Men film universe, if at all. Now, thanks to X-Men film mastermind Bryan Singer... It's still not exactly clear, but we know for sure that Legion is part of the X-Men film universe, at least in name.

"[Legion is] part of the X-Men universe, but when you watched it, you wouldn't have to label it,” Singer said at the Edinbugh Television Festival (via The Hollywood Reporter). “It could exist completely on its own."

That doesn't clarify how or if Legion ties to any movie projects, but does confirm that it's not set in a wholly separate universe.

However, that doesn't mean that the X-Men's TV prospects and planned films won't tie together more closely at some point. Singer also said a different upcoming X-Men TV show would "will relate to future X-Men movies,” and center around a  “really ambitious and fun and very unique storyline.”

This second show could be Matt Nix's as yet untitled X-Men project for Fox.

Legion premieres in 2017 on FX.
