Bourne Identity director Doug Liman is now set to helm the long-delayed DC Films' Dark Universe movie for Warner Bros., according to Variety. The film had been in development for years with writer/director Guillermo Del Toro, who ultimately backed out of the project last summer.
Dark Universe is patterned roughly on the "New 52" Justice League Dark title, featuring John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna, Etrigan the Demon, and others in a supernatural DC super-team. At Comic-Con International: San Diego, Warner Bros. Animation announced a similiar Justice League Dark animated film with former Constantine leadning man Matt Ryan reprising his role.
Liman recently finished filming Amazon Studios' The Wall, and was attached to direct both Lionsgate's Chaos Walking and 20th Century Fox's beleaguered Gambit film starring Channing Tatum. Producer Simon Kinberg said that Gambit's delays were due to unhappiness by the studios and those involved with the screenplay, which was being re-worked.
No release date was given for the reported Dark Universe film.
