Hugh Jackman may not be the only actor retiring from his iconic X-Men role after the next Wolverine solo movie. Original Professor X actor Patrick Stewart now says the film will also be his last with the franchise - but don't worry, he's leaving the door open to prove himself wrong.

“I would imagine this is probably the end of this franchise for me,” Stewart told iTV. “But the thing about science fiction and fantasy is that you can never, ever say it's the end, it's over.”

Stewart last appeared as Professor X in X-Men: Days of Future Past, ceding the role to James McAvoy, who plays a much younger version of Professor X in films set in the past. Few details about the third, untitled Wolverine solo movie are known, however Stewart's involvement was announced some time ago.

The third Wolverine movie is currently in production for a March 3, 2017 release.
