As previously announced, one-time Punisher Dolph Lundgren has joined the cast of Arrow to appear in the upcoming fifth season's flashbacks, which take place in Russia. According to Entertainment Weekly, we now know Lundgren will play the Russian villain Kovar, mentioned briefly at the end of Arrow season 4.

Interestingly, Kovar may not be a simple TV villain with a Eastern European name;  as his character shares the surname of Leonid Kovar, a.k.a. Red Star of the Teen Titans. Originally introduced as "Starfire" in 1968, the Russian teen hero changed his codename to Red Star when he rejoined the team after the new Starfire became a Titan. In comic books, Kovar has super strength, super speed, and energy powers which were granted to him by alien technology.

It is unknown whether Lundgren's Kovar will have any connection to Red Star, or if he'll have any superpowers.

Arrow season 5 premieres October 5 on CW.
