Orange is the New Black actor Michael Cernus has been cast as the Tinkerer in next year's Spider-Man: Homecoming, according to Deadline.
An inventor who creates weapons for supervillains, the Tinkerer is one of the earliest Spider-Man villains, having first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #2, and has long been rumored to be one of the film's villains.
If the casting is accurate, the presence of the Tinkerer could lend credence to Newsarama's theory that the film is adapting somewhat the Vulture/Tinkerer storyline from Ultimate Spider-Man, which also involved the Prowler.
Chernus, most recently of Orange is the New Black fame, will reportedly play the character in cahoots with Michael Keaton, who purportedly plays the film's principal villain, the Vulture.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is due out in theaters July 7, 2017.
