Actor Gabriel Luna has been cast as Ghost Rider for the upcoming fourth season of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC. Luna will play the recently introduced Robbie Reyes Ghost Rider, created by Felipe Smith and Tradd Moore. This announcement comes after weeks of hints to the character joining the show, and dovetails into the show's "edgier, darker, risker" tone Marvel has described as as it shifts from the 9 p.m. ET slot to 10 p.m. ET.
"Season 4 will unquestionably be the series’ biggest, most ambitious story yet, and it all begins with the introduction of one of our greatest legacy characters in Ghost Rider,” said Jeph Loeb, head of Marvel Television. “When the Spirit of Vengeance rides into S.H.I.E.L.D., it’ll change everything.”
Luna is best known for his role as Miguel in True Detective, and Tony Bravo in Matador. In addition to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Luna is also appearing in Discover's upcoming non-fiction Harley & the Davidsons miniseries. In what is an interesting coincidence, Luna is playing Eddie Hasha - a pioneeering motorcycle racer who died while riding.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s fourth season begins September 20 on ABC.
