In the wake of the attack on Orlando gay bar Pulse that left 50 people dead and 53 more wounded, Disney has donated $1 million to a fund set up by the Orlando mayor Buddy Dyer to support victims of the shooting, most of whom are members of Orlando's LGBT community.
Disney has a major presence in Orlando, with their Walt Disney World theme parks located in neighboring Bay Lake, and many employees in the greater Orlando area. Disney will also match donations from its employees to the OneOrlando fund dollar for dollar.
“We are heartbroken by this tragedy and hope our commitment will help those in the community affected by this senseless act,” said Bob Chapek, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. “With 74,000 cast members who call Orlando home, we mourn the loss of the victims and offer our condolences to their families, friends and loved ones.”
