Comic-Con International: San Diego is in talks for a devoted comic book museum in the city's Balboa Park area, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune. A board member for the San Diego Hall of Champions sports museum revealed that talks have been underway "for awhile" for SDCC to set-up a comic book-centric museum in one of its spaces. The Hall of Champions is a 68,000-square foot facility that is located in Balboa Park, next to the Starlight Bowl.

“I heard they might be interested in doing something, so I made contact and began a conversation, and it’s been going on for awhile,” said Dan Shea. “We have a space that could be considered under-utilized for what we have. Comic-Con is an iconic community group, and we would love to see them stay here, so we thought, wouldn’t it be great to have a museum for them in our hometown. And that’s what we talk about when we get together now and then.”

SDCC Marketing and PR Director David Glanzer confirmed these talks, but said it it is in the very early stages.

“We're still in discussions. I'm sorry but we haven't gotten that far yet.”

This wouldn't be the first time a comic book museum in San Diego has been floated before. A museum was in one of rejected expansion plans for the San Diego Convention Center expansion, and the local sports team the San Diego Chargers have said a museum could be housed in its proposed downtown stadium.
