The charged climate of the current election cycle seems to be infecting Lucasfilm, as official Star Wars YouTube channel has released a scathing political attack commercial against Carrie Fisher's Princess Leia circa Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Titled "Princess Leia: What Is She Trying To Hide?," the critique hits on the princess/political figure overlooking Chewbacca in Star Wars' awards ceremony, and the murder of Jabba the Hutt from Return of the Jedi.
Take a look:
The ad is actually a somewhat savvy piece of marketing for the recently released prose novel Star Wars: Bloodline by Claudia Gray set in the time period after Return of the Jedi but before The Force Awakens. Lucasfilm has previously stated that Bloodline does contain "story ideas and elements" from the upcoming Star Wars; Episode VIII, but hasn't specified if what's in this video is part of that. This new video does an interesting job at outlining how some in the Republic may view her - especially given her split from the main governmental body by last year's film.
Interestingly, it also states as fact in tongue-in-cheek fashion that citizens in the Star Wars universe know that Leia is NOT a blood relative of Bail Organa, but rather adopted. It doesn't mention that Darth Vader is her biological father, although it uses a visual element to conflate the two.
No mention is made of the Star Wars' universe widespread use of sentient robots as slave labor.
