Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials actress Rosa Salazar has been cast in the titular role of James Cameron's Alita: Battle Angel film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Based on the 1990s manga series Gunnm by Yukito Kishiro, Alita: Battle Angel is scheduled to be directed by Robert Rodriguez with Cameron acting as a producer.
According to the Hollywood trade, Salazar beat out several other contenders including Maika Monroe, Bella Thorne, and Zendaya.
Salazar is best known as Brenda from the recent Maze Runner sequel, and also had a co-starring role in Insurgent. The 30-year old Maryland actress got her start with CollegeHumor short films, before segueing to television with American Horror Story: Murderhouse and Parenthood. The actress is currently filming a CHiPs reboot, and is also scheduled to reprise her role in the delayed Maze Runner: The Death Cure.
No release date has been set for Alita: Battle Angel.
