AMC has announced Talking Preacher, a recap show that will air after Preacher's May 29 season premiere and the eventual season finale in the style of Talking Dead, which recaps AMC's The Walking Dead after it airs.
Like Talking Dead, Talking Preacher will be hosted by Chris Hardwick, and will feature interviews and commentary from the show's cast, crew, and fans.
“It’s very clear that Chris Hardwick knows how to lead and navigate a conversation about hordes of zombies on Talking Dead and shifty lawyers on Talking Saul, so we can’t wait to see how he’ll handle this new batch of insanely, out-of-this-world characters from Preacher," said Joel Stillerman, president of original programming and development for AMC and SundanceTV. “It’s amazing to see Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s comic creation come to life and I know that Chris and our special guests on Talking Preacher will have a great time engaging fans in a lively discussion around this twisted and unpredictable new series.”
Preacher's red carpet premiere took place over the weekend, during which Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg, the writers and directors of the show's premiere, praised their working relationship with AMC.
“What they did with The Walking Dead was very exciting to us; the fact that they took a fringe comic book with very passionate hardcore fans and then turned it into one of the biggest shows on television,” Rogen told Variety. “They seemed like incredible partners to work with and [Showrunner] Sam [Catlin] had a great relationship with them from Breaking Bad.”
Rogen also revealed that Preacher is more in line with the creative vision he and Goldberg have had for some time, but have been unable to tap into.
“On comedies, you go where the comedy train and the laughs go. Directorially, this was more of what we’ve had inside and wanted to do, but we were slaves to the laughter. Now, we can make this funny when we want.”
