Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson has spoken up about the controversial casting of actress Tilda Swinton as the movie's Ancient One, which many have said is a white-washing of the typically Asian role.

"Raw anger/hurt from Asian-Americans over Hollywood whitewashing, stereotyping & erasure of Asians in cInema," Derrickson posted on Twitter. "I am listening and learning."

It's unclear if any changes will be made to Doctor Strange, as it completed filming in April.

An unnamed Marvel Studios representative reportedly said Swinton's Ancient One character was celtic and a different character than the one who mentored Strange in the comic books.

Doctor Strange  is scheduled to open in theaters November 4.
