Writer/artist Howard Chaykin is taking convention appearances to a new level, as he's doing a series of three (3) two-day intensive workshops-seminars in June. Titled "Graphic Design in the Service of Narrative: The Building Blocks of Comic Book Storytelling," the two-day events will be held at Wizard World: Philadelphia, Wizard World: Sacramentor, and at the Society of Illustrators.
“I solemnly promise two days of enlightenment, illumination, and at least two laughs--at least one of which will result from seeing how much greyer and fatter I am than I am used to be," Chaykin said.
Chaykin will demonstrate how he approaches sequential art and storytelling, as well as provide critiques to students during and after class.
"The seminar conducted by Mr. Chaykin was tremendously worthwhile. Howard is a master storyteller and he is also masterful at teaching his storytelling techniques," said Uncanny Avengers artist Ryan Stegman. "I feel like my work jumped many levels after the seminar."
The first workshop will be held during Wizard World: Philadelpia on June 1 and 2. The second will be June 6 and 7 at the Society of Illustrators in New York City. The third will be held during Wizard World: Sacramento June 16 and 17.
Costing $500, the two-day workshops will be conducted in two 4-hour segments on two consecutive days, with assignments given between the two days to be done overnight. Class size is limited to 15 students.
