The long-held mystery of who The Hobbit star Martin Freeman would be playing in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War has been revealed. Freeman will play Everett K. Ross, who in comic books is an employee of the U.S. State Department, working primarily as a liaison with foreign dignitaries such as Black Panther. In this photo, Freeman's Ross stands next to Sharon Carter (played by Emily VanCamp), who are flanked by members of a German S.W.A.T. team. Captain America: Civil War co-director Joe Russo has said that during the movie Steve Rogers (played by Chris Evans) will return to Germany -- the site of the original Captain America: The First Avengers -- to bring the character "full circle."

Everett K. Ross was created by Christopher Priest and Kenny Martinez for the Ka-Zar series, but Priest re-used the character in his Black Panther run as a key antagonist to T'Challa. According to the writer, the character was based on the Friends character Chandler Bing, played by Matthew Perry.

Captain America: Civil War opens in theaters May 5.
