Producer Simon Kinberg, who drives 20th Century Fox's X-Men franchise, is already looking to incorporate lessons from Deadpool's success into future films. One of those films is X-Force, a movie which might even feature Deadpool, which Kinberg now says could carry an R-rating.
“I think there are some stories that could be R-rated,” Kinberg told Collider. “I don’t know what they are, I mean I think the mainline X-Men movies have their own tone, which is a more operatic tone. It’s more dramatic, it is more PG-13 in a way. X-Force I could see being R-rated, and who knows?”
Deadpool's co-creator Rob Liefeld, who was also present, told Kinberg that statement would "become a headline," prompting Kinberg to qualify that X-Force won't necessarily be R-rated, but it's a possibility.
“I’m saying I could imagine a universe in which [X-Force is R-rated]," Kinberg explained.
Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds has expressed interest in joining an X-Force film, saying it is his "priority." If Reynolds gets involved, that could sway X-Force towards a more R-rated tone.
No cast or crew are officially attached to X-Force, which is still in development.
