Ever since CBS's Supergirl premiered, there's been a question of whether Superman would make a full appearance on the show, and if so, who would play him. Tom Welling, who played Clark Kent for 10 seasons of Smallville has been a popular fan choice to reprise his role, and according to the star, it's not outside the realm of possibility.
"There's people who would like it," Welling told Buzzfeed. "There's people who don't like it, but I will tell you that no one has ever asked me to do it. So, I don't know. It would be kind of odd. I don't know who he is at that point. He would obviously be Superman..."
The quote was curiously left out of the published article, but Jarett Wieselman, the piece’s author, later tweeted it.
Supergirl features another former TV Superman, Dean Cain, as Kara's adoptive father, while Laura Vandervoort, a Smallville alum, has been cast as Indigo on the show.
Welling did have some words of encouragement for CW's DC TV Universe - a concept he helped pioneer on the network with Smallville.
“I’m very proud of shows like Arrow [and] The Flash. … They’re able to ground these characters so that the viewer can relate on a human level to people who used to be only in two dimensions.”
Supergirl airs Monday nights on CBS. The Flash airs Tuesday nights on CW, followed on Wednesdays by Arrow.
