In a recent interview with The Lowdown, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder said that 2017's Justice League Part One represents the "next step" for the characters.

"We're working on Justice League right now," said Snyder, "So in a weird way, Justice League is the next step for these characters, to form a bigger team."

As for what brings that team together, Snyder hinted at a larger threat looming of the DC Cinematic Universe.

"Maybe there's a bigger enemy to fight," the director said coyly.

Snyder gave no hints about who that enemy could be, but in the most recent iteration of the Justice League comic book, the team was united by Darkseid invading Earth - and there aren't many DC villains bigger than Darkseid. Check out the entire interview right here:

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters March 25. Justice League: Part One opens November 17, 2017.
