Kotaku is reporting that the next major Assassin's Creed game won't be released until 2017 -- but will be based in ancient Egypt. Ubisoft so far has declined to comment, but the prominent game website said that the game is going by the code-name Empire. Since it's launch in 2007, Assassin's Creed has released a new game in the franchise every year.

According to Kotaku, one of the reasons Ubisoft is diverging from its annual release pattern is to hone the game more to avoid the problems experienced back in 2014 with Unity.

This spring Ubisoft will released two more of its side-scrolling Assassin's Creed Chronicles games, with a live-action movie coming December 21, 2016.
