Although gaming fans are still waiting for Phantasy Star Online 2 to be released outside of Japan, Sentai Filmworks has announced that they'll be releasing an anime based on the game in 2016. The film, titled Phantasy Star Online 2: The Animation, will premiere first on Japanese broadcast television before being released on home video.
Phantasy Star Online 2: The Animation will be rather meta, following a player of the MMORPG game named Itsuki Tachibana both in-game and in the real world. The animation will be produced by Telecom Animation film who did the recent Lupin III - The Italian Adventure, and be directed by Keiichiro Kawaguchi. The anime will be written by Mitsutaka Hirota, with character designs by Minoku Takasu.
