Marvel has announced that it will be translating and publishing a Korean manwha based on its characters titled Avengers K: Avengers vs. Ultron. Originally published in South Korea by Daewon C.I., Avengers K: Avengers vs. Ultron is a retelling of Ultron's creation in the Avengers series scheduled to be released in May 2016.
“Marvel’s popularity is growing exponentially throughout Asia – specifically within Korea – which has resulted in a vast catalog of visually kinetic original content,” said David Gabriel, Marvel SVP, Print & Digital Publishing. “Now, partnered with Daewon, Marvel is poised to introduce the international comic book community a bold reimagining of one of the most iconic Avengers stories ever told through the vibrant and action-packed manhwa format presented for our English-speaking fans for the very first time.”
Avengers K: Avengers vs. Ultron is written by Si Yeon Park and illustrated by Woo Bin Choi with Jae Sung Lee, Min Ju Lee, Jae Woong Lee, Hee Ye Cho, Ji Hee Choi and In Young Lee. The English translation is done by Ji Eun Park.
Marvel descibes Avengers K as "the first in a brand new publishing initiative" using "international talent", with four more volumes planned. Original comic book stories based on Marvel characters have been published in several countries including South Korea, Europe and England.
