WHAT: In December, 1980, the film “Flash Gordon” first hit cinema screens like a bolt of lightning.
Produced by Dino Delaurentis and helmed by director Mike Hodges, the kaleidoscopic worlds and inhabitants of Mongo burst into life like no comic property seen before or since, all accompanied by a legendary QUEEN soundtrack.
Now, 35 years later, BAFTA is hosting a red carpet celebration and screening to honor the film that has been a fan favorite and inspiration since its debut. For the first time, many of the cast and crew that helped bring “Flash Gordon” to "life" will converge for one night only, Saturday, November 28th.
Confirmed guests include:
Sam J Jones “Flash Gordon”
Melody Anderson “Dale Arden”
Brian Blessed “Prince Vultan”
Ornella Muti “Princess Aura”
Howard Blake Composer
George Gibbs SFX Supervisor
Dave Watson SFX Supervisor
Trevor Butterfield “Hawksman” and “MingsGuard”
To HELP celebrate this historic event, artist Alex Ross has created a stunning and unique print inspired by the occasion that is available to all ticket holders before being released as a print to the public next year.
Various copies of the poster will be signed by the cast and sold for charity at the event.
After the reception, ticket holders will move into the Princess Anne Theatre where they will enjoy a screening of the 1980 classic “Flash Gordon.”
After the screening, the cast and crew will take to the stage and take part in a Q&A, moderated by actor/producer and Bif Bang Pow! founder Jason Lenzi.
The night will close with an after party, at BAFTA, where the ticket holders can meet the cast and crew in a social and informal setting.
