Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice actress Gal Gadot has her work cut out for her portraying Wonder Woman on the big screen for the first time -- especially considering Lynda Carter's iconic work in television. But according to Gadot, she sees it as an opportunity rather than a challenge - one she's had a great primer for.

"Wonder Woman's a household name, I think, everywhere," Gadot told Total Film (via ComicBook). "She's an icon. I wasn't born during the Wonder Woman show with Lynda Carter, so I didn't get to see that [growing up], but I did watch the cartoon."

Though she didn't see Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman when it originally aired, she did go back and watch it once she got the role.

"She was fantastic. I absolutely loved her," said Gadot of Carter's performance.

Gadot went on to praise the "relevance" of Lynda Carter's performance, saying she hopes her turn as the Amazonian Princess will bring the character into the 21st century.

"Zack Snyder is in collaboration with Patty Jenkins, who's going to direct [the solo Wonder Woman]. All of us want to evolve the character because what you saw back then, you've already seen," explained Gadot. "So we're going to give it another layer of interpretation and make her a bit more relevant and a bit more up to date."

"The Wonder Woman story is a story that needs to be told. I'm so happy that it's me to tell this story. I think that there's no better time than now, and it's about time that we showed this amazing heroine on the big screen."

Gadot makes her debut as Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which hits theaters March 25, 2016, while Wonder Woman is scheduled for a June 23, 2017 release.
