Classic alien invasion film Independence Day is getting a film sequel almost 20 years after it was first released. But before Independence Day: Resurgence hits theaters in 2016, the sequel will get a comic book lead-in from Titan Comics.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the as-yet untitled prequel will tell a "rich psychological prison drama" set in the time after the original 1996 film.

“[This will be] a golden opportunity to segue nicely into next year's blockbuster sequel by taking the mythos of the original and maybe adding a little darkness to it,” said Titan Comics editor Steve White.

This won't be the 1990s film franchise's first foray into comic books, however. In 1996, Marvel Comics produced a three issue adaptation titled ID4: Independence Day.

No creators or release date for the prequel comic book have been announced. Independence Day: Resurgence hits theaters June 24, 2016.
