Sons of Anarchy actor Theo Rossi has been cast as Victor "Shades" Alvarez in Marvel/Netflix's upcoming Luke Cage series, according to Deadline.
In comic books, Shades and Cage debuted together in 1972's Luke Cage: Hero For Hire #1. Both were a part of a group of inmates who gained superpowers in experiments done while incarcerated in Seagate Prison, but eventually escaped. After prison, Shades and Cage clashed on numerous occasions. Interestingly, Shades had a son in comics named Victor who went on to take up Luke Cage's superhero name of Power Man during the "Shadowland" event.
Rossi is best known as Sons of Anarchy's Juan Carlos "Juice" Ortiz, and is scheduled to appear next year in the film Low Riders, which is written by Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker.
Additionally, the Hollywood trade confirmed that Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple from Daredevil will be reprising her role in this new series. Dawson was already confirmed for the Jessica Jones series, but with this report it seems the Claire Temple could be a staple of the Marvel/Netflix shows.
Luke Cage is reported to begin filming later this year, although no air date has been announced.
