Stan Lee has revealed that he is among the many that skipped out on seeing the Fantastic Four movie, but not because of the mostly negative reviews. In an interview with Larry King for his Hulu show Larry King Now, Lee said he hasn't watched the film because the producers didn't involve him in the movie -- neither in a cameo or consulted with him about the movie's story.
Of course, it's entirely possible Lee was just being wryly humorous.
"Well, it was probably because I didn't have a cameo in it, and they didn't discuss the story with me," Lee told King. "I haven't seen it yet, so I really can't comment."
Lee is listed as an executive producer of the Fantastic Four film like virtually all Marvel-related television and film projects, but that could be a contractual term and not denote in actual involvement by Lee in the movie itself.
And while a cameo appearance from Stan Lee has become a recurring easter egg in Marvel films, 2015's Fantastic Four is far from the first one he did not appear in. He had no appearance in X2 and X-Men: First Class despite being co-creator of the team, and has missed out on several films with characters he didn't create such as the Blade, Punisher and Ghost Rider films.
Lee adds that he doesn't see all of the movies based on his co-creations immediately upon release, but "I get there eventually."
