Three actresses are vying for a lead role in 2017's sequel to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, reports The Wrap. Tatian Maslany (Orphan Black), Olivia Cooke (Me & Earl & The Dying Girl) and Gina Rodriguez (Jane The Virgin) are reportedly among a group of actresses auditioning for Rian Johnson, director of 2017's Star Wars: Episode VIII.
The trade goes on to say that the casting process has just begun, with several additional as-yet-unnamed actresses also expected to audition. One of The Wrap's unnamed sources also said that the final candidates will do a screen-test with John Boyega as Finn to help make the decision.
Star Wars: Episode VIII is scheduled for release May 26, 2017.
