Press Release:

ComicsPRO, the trade organization of comic book retailers, announces that registration is now open for retailers and publishers to participate in Local Comic Shop Day™.

ONI Press is the first publisher to announce their special products for release on LCSD. ONI Press will be publishing three items for Local Comic Shop Day.™ Participating retailers will be able to order exclusive, limited print runs of Invader Zim #1 and Rick and Morty #1. ONI will also be releasing a variant edition of Exodus: The Life After #1.

“We’re pleased to report that ONI Press is partnering with ComicsPRO on Local Comic Shop Day™” said Peter Dolan, president of ComicsPRO and owner of Main Street Comics in Middletown NY. “ONI’s excitement to be a part of LCSD and the announcement of their exclusive LCSD items helps launch Local Comic Shop Day™ in a major way. We appreciate their input and involvement”.

Local Comic Shop Day™ is a new event designed to call attention to locally owned independent comic book specialty stores, celebrating their unique and vital role in being the primary fire-starters of pop culture. The first Local Comic Shop Day will be Saturday, November 28, two days after Thanksgiving and coinciding with the day American Express has labeled “Small Business Saturday.”

“Even before starting the drive to sign up retailers, we have registered more than 100 storefronts,” said Peter Dolan, president of ComicsPRO. “We invite all retailers with brick and mortar comic specialty shops to join us.”

Participating retailers will sell exclusive releases from participating publishers. Some items offered will be limited editions, others will be “first day of release” items debuting on LCSD, released on that Saturday – outside of the traditional Wednesday routine. The goal of Local Comic Shop Day™ is to jump start the holiday buying season for storefront comics specialty retailers while also giving comics fans more of what they most desire.

Retailer and publisher participation information is available from ComicsPRO Executive Director Marco Davanzo at marco@comicspro.org. Information is also posted at www.localcomicshopday.com
