Well that was quick.
Yesterday, we spoke with Mark Millar about American Jesus, his three-part retelling of the Book of Revelation in comic book form. The collection of the first book, American Jesus: Chosen hit stores this week, and as Millar said, there would be movie news “coming soon.”
“Soon” meant today, apparently, as The Hollywood Reporter gave word that Millar will once again team with director Matthew Vaughn for the adaptation.
The film version of American Jesus - which would comprise the storyline of all three miniseries (Chosen and the next two as well), and would be produced by Vaughn and his Marv Films partner Kris Thykier. The trade reports that the film would be independently financed, as Vaughn did with Kick-Ass, which will guarantee less interference from a studio.
From THR: “A summer start is being posited, though Vaughn also is developing another project with Millar, a still-in-the-works actioner. Millar, while also writing such titles as "Wolverine" and "Ultimate X-Men," has written creator-owned comics that have caught Hollywood's fancy, including last year's summer hit "Wanted." He also has "War Heroes" set up at Columbia.”
THR names the second miniseries as The Resurrection, and says it will begin this fall.
