It looks like one Marvel bird is looking for a new place to roost.
Deadline is reporting that the previously-revealed Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff show in early development at ABC would star two characters who recently debuted on the main show: Adrianne Palicki (Bobbi Morse, a.k.a. Mockingbird) and Nick Blood (Lance Hunter). Neither actor nor Marvel or ABC would comment to Deadline, but the online Hollywood trade said the two actors are finalizing deals to 'topline' the as-yet-untitled show.
The show is reportedly being developed by Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producers Jeffrey Bell and Paul Zbyszewski, with the story reportedly being set up by events coming later in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s current season. Deadline describes the spin-off show as a "Mr. & Mrs. Smith vibe," due to the fact that Palicki and Blood's characters are a divorced couple whose romance reignites on the battlefield.
This would be the second new show Marvel has in the works at the Disney-owned network, joining the reported new series being developed by 12 Years A Slave writer/producer John Ripley.
This would also be the second publicly known instance of Marvel angling for a Mockingbird-led television series. At Comic-Con International: San Diego in 2011, Marvel's Head of Television Jeph Loeb announced that they were working on a Mockingbird series for ABC Family that he described as "Alias meets Felicity." That series never came to fruition, but Marvel's interest in Mockingbird as a television star seems revived with this new report.
