So who are the new characters in Star Wars, Episode VII: The Force Awakens? Well, the cast is opening up.
During The Force Awakens panel at Star Wars Celebration, director J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy brought three of the main new castmembers on stage, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac. Without much adieu, the panel host asked each to talk a bit about their character:
Daisy Ridley on Rey: "Rey is a scavenger in a ship graveyard on the planet Jakku. She's completely self sufficient and solitary, until she meets another character." While she doesn't say who the character is, a still is shown of Ridley and the new droid BB8.
John Boyega as Finn: "So we find Finn and he's in incredible danger. The way he reacts changes his life, and launches him into the Star Wars universe in a unique way." Since he is seen in the trailer wearing a Stormtrooper outfit, Boyega is asked if he is in fact a Stormtrooper or merely masquerading as one. Boyega nodds, but Abrams then playfully smacks his hand in admonishment.
Oscar Isaac on Poe Dameron: "He's the best frigging pilot in the galaxy, that's who he is. He's been sent on a mission by a certain princess and he ends up coming across Mr. John Boyega's character and their fates are forever intertwined."
