Marvel has been promoting Secret Wars as a major change for its characters and universes, but from the looks of this new art some heroes are changing more than others.
Newsarama has the exclusive first look at two designs for the forthcoming Inferno series by Dennis Hopeless and Javier Garron. The designs, by Garron show Illyana Rasputin going back to an old style and Nightcrawler evolving into something pretty demonic.
Hopeless told Newsarama that the Inferno series is essentially a story asking "What If the original 'Inferno' crossover never ended?" In this series, the X-Men lost and Darkchilde and her minions conquered Manhattan. Now, five years on, her brother Colossus is mounting a last-ditch effort to rescue his sister and the world.
“Rereading those original Inferno arcs in preparation for the series, I was reminded how weird and cool possessed Manhattan was,” Hopeless says. “It’s just a great idea that even running across multiple series seemed to come and go too fast. I couldn’t help but wonder what demonic New York would look like if had been allowed to grow and thrive. This story builds straight out of that curiosity. We’re exploring the world of Inferno five years after the X-men failed to expunge the demon horde.”
Inferno #1 debuts May 27, 2015.
