Warner Bros. may have found their captain to lead them into the deep with Aquaman.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that director James Wan of the recent blockbuster Furious 7 is Wanrer Bros. top choice to direct the the Jason Momoa-fronted Aquaman movie for 2018. THR says that talks have taken place, but no formal offer has been made yet by the studio.
Aquaman's cinematic debut will be in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and is also expected to play a major role in Justice League Part One in 2017.
In an effort to speed up production but have options, THR reports that Warner Bros. has two different scripts for Aquaman in the works -- one by Will Beall and one by Kurt Johnstad. Presumably, they would decide between those two or potential use both in service of a final shooting script.
As stated, Wan has not signed a deal for Aquaman and given the success of Furious 7 is presumed to be courted by several major studios for other projects, including another Fast & Furious film. Wan's already committed to his next film, The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist, with filming expected to begin in the fall.
