Female heroes are standing front and center as of late in Marvel, and now the publisher is organizing their comics under a new umbrella for bookstores.
Marvel announced Thursday via TeenVogue a new magazine-style anthology series titled A-Force Presents. The monthly series, reportedly to be released in bookstores (as well as the Direct Market), will feature six previously published stories in each issue from female-fronted comic series such as Ms. Marvel, Thor, Black Widow, She-Hulk and Captain Marvel.
"In a world where virtually everyone has heard of Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, and The Avengers, Marvel's female super heroes have stepped into the spotlight, spurred on by a rapidly growing base of Marvel fans who just happen to be women," said Axel Alonso, Marvel's Editor In Chief.
A-Force is a recently introduced moniker Marvel created to denote an all-female team of Avengers that will debut in a self-titled series beginning in May. With this introduction of A-Force Presents, it appears that Marvel is using A-Force as a umbrella branding for many, if not all, of its superheroes.
"Titles like Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel, Spider-Gwen, Thor, Silk, and the recently announced A-Force, each offer a distinct and compelling reflection of what we call 'the world outside your window,'" says the editor. "A-Force Presents collects all of these critically-acclaimed entry points into the Marvel Universe and proves, once and for all, just how powerful the women of Marvel truly can be."
