AMC has hired veteran television actress and HBO alum Kim Dickens to play the female lead in the upcoming The Walknig Dead spin-off series reports Deadline. The online trade doesn't identify the character but a previously released casting notice lists the character's name as Nancy Tompkins.
The series, tentatively dubbed Cobalt, will reportedly be set in California with Dickens playing a guidance counselor with two children (played by Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey). Deadline says Dickens' character has a "troubled past" but is working alongside Curtis' character, whom she's also dating. Reports indicate that AMC went through a lengthy casting process before deciding on Dickens.
Dickens' casting seemingly caps off the hiring for the major elements of Cobalt's cast to start with, which plans underway to begin filming in early 2015. Cobalt was reportedly created by Robert Kirkman alongside David Erickson, whom will act as the series' showrunner, and is based off the original television series and, of couse, the original The Walking Dead comic series by Kirkman and co-creator Tony Moore.
