Justice League writer Geoff Johns has implied in the that past despite the new Power Ring's recent recruitment into the Justice League, a "Green Lantern proper" would eventually return to the team, but he stopped short of saying exactly who and when.
Now he has.
In a new interview with IGN, while not actually calling him by name, Johns clearly implies it'll be Hal Jordan who's "coming back" to the League for the post-“Amazo Virus”, “Darkseid War” storyline.
Asked what he wanted to say to readers to get them excited for the “Amazo Virus” arc, Johns replied, "Well, Jay [artist Jason Fabook] and I both see this as a great opportunity, and working on the Justice League is the biggest opportunity there is. We've talked a lot about where we're taking the book and where we're taking the cast of characters. It really is focusing on the core Justice League post-Luthor, and Shazam, and Green Lantern's going to come back soon for the big ‘Darkseid War’ storyline.”
IGN's Joshua Yehl then interjects, "I'm excited for Green Lantern to return." To which Johns replied, "Yes, he's coming back!"
Given neither John Stewart, Guy Gardner, Kyle Rayner or Simon Baz has been a cast member of the New 52 Justice League title during John's run, it can likely be safely assumed he's referring to founding member Hal Jordan.
Teasing the rest of the “Amazo Virus” arc and the future of the title, Johns and Fabook also promised a lot of "new stuff" and "a lot of new characters" including one that's coming up in next month's Justice League #37 that they hinted at in this weeks issue. "I had a blast drawing him and creating this new look for this character, try to do something a little different," said Fabook.
Finally, along with the Bat-Hazmat suit, Johns says Wonder Woman gets a "kick-ass new" battle mode" costume during the arc.
