On its website, Marvel announced today that it will publish a new Guardians of the Galaxy series which will be adapting the stories from the forthcoming animated series. This comic series, titled Marvel Universe: Guardians of the Galaxy, will be adapted by writer/letterer Joe Caramagna, who also writes the other series adapting Marvel's television animation, Marvel Universe: Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors and Marvel Universe: Avengers Assemble.

“To keep all of this from reading like a dry information dump, I make an extra effort to keep as much of the humor and great character moments that represent the heart and soul of the series as I can,” Carmagna said in the Marvel.com article. “And if I can't, I have to create my own, which means getting to know these characters and their relationships inside and out through watching, re-watching, pausing, rewinding."

Although there's no formal release date from Marvel for the comic, the source material -- the animated Guardians of the Galaxy television series -- has been announced to debut sometime in 2015 as part of Disney XD's Marvel block.
