Toby Kebbell is playing Dr. Doom in the 2015 The Fantastic Four reboot for Fox. While we’ve cautioned fans not to jump to conclusions about the movie, some of you will want to make sure you’re sitting down for this one.
According to the actor, in an interview with Collider, there are some major changes to Doctor Doom in The Fantastic Four. First up? His name isn’t Victor Von Doom, or even Damme like in the Ultimate comic book universe. Meet Victor Domashev.
And Victor Domashev isn’t a despot ruling a fictional country in Eastern Europe. Instead, he’s a programmer with a blogging alias of “Doom.”
Again, this is directly from the actor playing the role. Here’s his full quote.
”I’m excited to see it too, and my nerves really…The only thing I can tease you about is what I worked on most was the voice because nobody—even in the cartoons, when I was watching them I was like, ‘So where’s he from?’ There’s a mild change and I’ll tell you because of our history. He’s Victor Domashev, not Victor Von Doom in our story. And I’m sure I’ll be sent to jail for telling you that. The Doom in ours—I’m a programmer. Very anti-social programmer. And on blogging sites I’m ‘Doom’. It was cool man. Josh, the whole deal, the lo-fi way he did it, the ultra-real. It was just nice to do that. It was nice to be feeling like we had to come to terms with what was given by this incident.”
That’s what Kebbell says about his character, Victor Domashev, alias Doom, and his “mild change.” You can see the full interview excerpt yourself below.
The Fantastic Four hits theaters August 7, 2015.
