One of the more recent Marvel Comics events gets the Summer 2015 teaser treatment today, with Avengers vs X-Men getting the spotlight, courtesy of Skottie Young’s signature “baby” alternate cover style.
Unlike previous events that have been teased for a return like Civil War or Age of Ultron, which featured large battles with hero fighting hero, this one… oh no, wait, this did that, too. Interestingly, the centerpiece of AvX was the Phoenix Five, five mutants who had the phoenix force split between them, which they initially used to help humanity on a global scale. The oppression and aggression of the Avengers drove the Phoenix Five crazy, eventually leading to Cyclops going full Dark Phoenix and killing Professor Charles Xavier, an event that has directly led to the current event, AXIS.
The teasers that have been going for a few weeks now are most likely all tying into Secret Wars, the year-long event starting just before Summer 2015, said to be dealing with the alternate realities, time-travel, and general malaise that heroes and villains alike have been putting upon the fabric of Space-Time in the Marvel Multiverse for the last several years - and as these teasers indicate, really for the last several decades.
Previous 'Summer 2015' teasers have included call backs to Civil War, Age of Ultron vs. Marvel Zombies, X-Men: Years of Future Past, Planet Hulk, Armor Wars, House of M, Infinity Gauntlet, Old Man Logan, Age of Apocalypse, Future Imperfect, Spider-Man's Marriage, and the new stories Inhumans: Attilan Rising and the End of the Ultimate Universe.
