Star Wars is getting a new line of comic books at Marvel Comics starting in January 2015. To celebrate, the first issue will look a lot like another first issue, one from 1977. Alex Ross has provided a new variant cover, debuted at EW.com (we'll post a non-watermarked and larger version as soon as we get it direct from Marvel), which is styled as an homage to Howard Chaykin's cover for the first issue of the original series.

The cover features the principal cast of Episode IV, Luke, Leia, Han, and Obi-Wan, standing at the ready in front of the visage of Darth Vader. The styling and trade dress likewise mimics the original.

So far, four Star Wars series have been announced at Marvel, including this one, a Leia solo mini-series, a Darth Vader ongoing series, and a series exploring Kanan of Star Wars Rebels' past. All series are now overseen by the Lucasfilm Story Group and considered 100% canon.

Star Wars #1 debuts in January, written by Jason Aaron and drawn by John Cassaday.
