Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy seemed like a whirlwind whistle stop tour of some amazing places in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but one stop that spurred more chatter amongst fans than anyone was the Collector’s abode. Taneleer Tivan’s private collection of artifacts and actual living people was eye-opening, and concept artist Richard Anderson has revealed some alternate designs for the museum/prison that Marvel commissioned him to make in the pre-production of the film.
It seems Anderson’s work for Guardians of the Galaxy focused solely on Knowhere, where in addition to illustration different versions of the Collector’s abode, also included a mall area and even concepts for the portal inside the unique spaceport.
Anderson, who also contributed concept art for Thor: The Dark World, comes from a background as fantasy illustrator for Dungeons & Dragons and various fantasy novels. For the past few years he’s segued into concept art, contributing to various genre films such as Prometheus, World War Z and even the more realistic Gravity.
